Valerie began her nonprofit fundraising career almost 30 years ago at Sanky Communications where she first began to cultivate her curiosity about human nature and what motivates donors to give.
After 19 years of account management, Valerie had the opportunity to work directly at two different, nationally recognized nonprofits. As the Manager, Individual Giving of amfAR she led the digital and direct mail programs. Later as the Director of Donor Stewardship at the ASPCA, she applied her love of data to identify donors most likely to upgrade (including donors giving through Donor Advised Funds and those who took advantage of employer matching gift programs) and created pathways for those passionate animal lovers to increase their investment in ASPCA’s work. At the same time, she managed the team that supported more than 400,000 monthly donors. Ask Val about her love of planned giving and you’ll come away with a treasure trove of new ideas!
Her blend of account and direct nonprofit experience has provided a unique perspective to her fundraising – allowing for an understanding of not only how to formulate effective strategies and effectively use data, but also how to address challenges that development departments of nonprofits often face.
Valerie has deep experience in donor retention and midlevel program development. Her positive attitude and customer service skills make her a joy to have as a colleague. She joins K2D Strategies as an Account Director and brings with her a love of data, a curiosity about how to grow direct response programs large and small, and an infectious positivity that will get you through any Monday.
Valerie is mom to three humans and three dogs and spends her time reading non-fiction, vegetarian cooking, and road-tripping across the US on a quest to visit all 50 states.
